WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

On a 1993 R&R trip to southern Ontario – out of Goose Bay Labrador – we decided to revisit some old RCAF haunts knowing we’d probably not pass this way again.  One of the first areas on our list was the Lake Huron region.  Bev and I had met at 1R&CS Clinton far too long ago to matter now but those weekends at the beach in Goderich were a big part of our highlight real.

This is an interesting feed and grain elevator set on an interesting wedge shaped lot next to a curved track.  How many times have you tried to fit an industry into just such a corner patch on the layout?  Down the street on the left is a commercial block housing just about anyone you like.  That’s a great idea for a corner of the benchwork.  A variety of connecting freight sheds curve away on the right following the track.  If that were my layout I’d even have that great old tree dominating the buildings around it.  No one does that though.  Model trees are always way too small.  And if I painted clouds like that on a backdrop people would laugh at me.
