In Chilliwack BC for example. Between a side street and a CN spur, and in the middle of a thriving corn and cattle region, this well-worn elevator still sees some use. Or at least it did during the mid 90’s while I was taking my release from a long career in the Air Force.
There are quite a few interesting things to see here. The siding is a natural modelling feature. The torn away corrugated covering reviles the old wood building in behind along with the painted signage from a forgotten era. The ‘spout’ sticking out from the side hints at the same feature seen on elevator models coming out of the US and Europe. What it was doing way up there I have no idea. No roads access? No rails access? You’ll also notice the extension built on the end of the scale room. And the extension built on to that. On and on down the road. Excellent material to indicate the passage to time, and revenue, on your layout.
A friend of mine who models in HO scale used a derelict building like this on his layout and while it was clearly abandoned it was scenically very interesting and there was still some traffic on the attached loading dock. Nice touch.
