WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

As long as the ground is frozen you can expect some heavy trains through here but as the days get longer and warmer, witness the casual water, (Photo 3) the roadbed becomes pretty spongy and trains become a lot shorter and a lot lighter between Hearst and Kapuskasing. The power stays the same. That spreads the weight nicely and there will be some heavier work to do on the road to Cochrane anyway. It’s nearly noon, and this beautiful little train is gliding right past my back door at CFS Lowther – now lost to bulldozers and history.

They often over power the trains down at the Peachland HO club and our G scale folks are guilty of the same thing. Three or four small engines all lashed together are simply a lot more impressive than one big 6000 horse power machine up at the front end. Well, I think so, and it’s even operationally acceptable when “less than carload” freight is the order of the day.
