WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

Heavy rail traffic between Montreal and Windsor is not restricted to CPRail. During the 80’s Canadian National used it’s own brand of horsepower (A modern GP40-2w supported by a trio of older MLW units) to move a long string of auto racks west into Toronto. The real beauty of railfanning west of Trenton is that CN and CP share a very narrow corridor right next to old highway 2 so there are plenty of quiet places to stop and enjoy the show.

In the early spring the tall grass along the right-of-way is still in its winter brown and the leaves have yet to show on natures trees but the well maintained orchards on the left are already in full early summer colours. The poles at the right are obligatory. I like to place mine ‘in front’ of the tracks but I have to learn to be aware of them when the 0-5-0 comes into use.
