WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

Moving down East for a look

During the 80’s the family made it’s home in Trenton Ontario. A really great location if your into mainline Canadian trains. Freight and passenger. There were also plenty of manufacturing and agro supply jobs in the area too so if you were a fan of modern switching exercises you were really in luck. I’ll just concentrate on the heavy, high-speed rail traffic.

Photo 1 – Just east of Brighten the CPRail main line is always busy. Pretend for a minute you’re the proud owner of that typical rural Ontario home on the left. What a show! Open daily for morning, matinee and evening performances. The stars in this case are four omnipresent SD40-2s shepherding a mixed bag west towards Toronto.

A model railway focused on ‘the corridor’ will need some special attention when it comes time for scenery. The warm summers with high humidity support an abundance of green on well maintained main lines and quiet, almost over grown country branches. Notice that in this photo the clean, straight ballast sits right up against an almost front lawn-like grassy area. No fences and no ditches.
