Climbing ‘the hill’ eastbound out of the yard in Moose Jaw was tricky business as well. One hundred car trains were still taking up slack while the three SD40-2’s in charge were already forcing their way up and out past the oil refinery on the north side of the tracks.

From time to time a big Alco was part of the power. Belching and smoking like a stand in steam engine. You could tell when there was a 630 or 636 in the consist because it looked like the horizon was on fire. Didn’t they ever wash those big units?
