WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

Away from the simple line side shed I couldn’t resist including this functioning shelter under the sand tower at the CP Rail yards in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Do you think it could stand a little TLC? No?

I had wandered away from the crowd during a Sunday morning tour of the facilities given nearly annually to members of the Thunder Greek MRC. They showed us all the good stuff but us scenery guys weren’t being side tracked by a tour of the cab of an SD40-2. Of which there were plenty back in 1975.

What a great structure! Note the individual colours in the board siding and the fine rusting sheets on the back side. A good place to show your modelling skills. Those twin fuel tanks are weathered nicely and the siding is clearly going off in it’s own direction next to the door. It had a tin roof and what looked like safety bars on the back window. That orange – red stuff is a length of wrapped up snow fence sticking out of the grass covered sand at the far end.

Model this at an active, modern facility and they wouldn’t believe you.
