I waited a long time for this one. In September 2004 we were just hours away from leaving when I found we were having visitors from overseas so we postponed my first fan trip in a dozen years. As September 2005 drew closer I was rehashing detailed plans for stops along the way when my son decided it was time to get married in Vancouver. Well, the following year would just have to do.

The goal was two fold. I would take a week to explore the Wainwright Sub from Viking Alberta to Biggar Saskatchewan and then spend a day or two at the Great Edmonton Train Show on the way home. The first real stop along the way would have to be at the Fabyan trestle. A series of overgrown back roads lead off Highway 14 about 7km east of Wainwright. Just about the time you think you’ll run out of road it opens up on this well maintained parking area and viewpoint.
