The General Electric AC4400CW (ES44AC) # 8811 was a part of Canadian Pacific’s more recent orders as indicated by the very simplified paint scheme. Large numbers of these units passed through Didsbury day and night and could be spotted wearing dual flags and the popular ‘gilded beaver’ as well. A few old reliable SD40-2’s were often on hand to help.

Long unit trains of lumber headed south to support Calgary’s building boom and many other ‘one product’ trains sped by consisting of tank cars, aggregate cars or old RailBox 50 footers. The day of the mixed, less than boxcar load, train is gone. At least around here.
