One hundred and one of these 1200HP road switchers were built for the CN/NAR between 1958 and 1960. Most, including 1057, were built with A-1-A trucks that spread their weight over light prairie rails but 18 of them had B-B wheel sets. Later renumbered and equipped with 4 wheel trucks, as shown, 1404 found a home with the Wainwright Railway Preservation Society. Some parts had been removed for spares before she arrived and recovery efforts are on going. A great deal more, including the history of each road number, can be found at www.cnlines.ca or you can build one in the April and July Canadian Railway Modeller. The only models of this engine have been produced in HO scale and debate continues with respect to the quality of those efforts. As a relatively rare beast working for a non-USA railway, the chances are slim that there will be other models manufactured. But out this way you can still see and touch the real thing.
