With a full crew now safely on board the 5604 throttles up through the intersection and past the flashing lights and the lowered crossing gate. Finding a gate like this while we were close to the middle of nowhere was a bit of a surprise. Other, much busier, rail crossings in the area were unprotected except for a traditional wooden crossbuck. It turns out this rural grid road is an important school bus route and so warranted the automatic installation.
