WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

If you drive west from my place, oh around 1000 km , and you follow the CN main line about half way down the Wainwright sub, grid road 657 will get you to a siding in the middle of a bushy, sand dune filled wasteland once home to 200 prairie pioneers.

Last September I made that trip to find my namesake village and to carefully photograph all the important structures for eventual recreation on the Winter Valley Regional Railway. It had been a dream of mine for many years following my finding the entry in the Canadian Trackside Guide - as well as recent CN timetables.

So there you have it. A signpost, a signal for the siding and maintenance gang an awfully long way from just about anywhere.
