The tracks and Highway 97 trade places again and again as they wind their way towards Revelstoke and Rodger’s Pass. In this photo, taken just east of Craigellachie, The train is on the north side of the highway clearly shows the reason for my interest in this otherwise routine westbound freight. Eight engines, all of the SD40-2 variety, in a time and in place where 3rd generation machines dominate. No explanation is offered.
Just a note on some modeling ideas though, Yes you can run super-multiple engines on your own layout given enough space and your DCC, or other throttle, can handle the extra current.
As far as scenery goes, you’ll notice that the backdrop of tall trees are not mountain conifers but rather 80 foot tall deciduous monsters that form a solid green wall of texture immediately behind the track. No need to paint mountains or mould interracially contoured rock faces here. You can add realistic elevation to a long narrow shelf by using a simple high embankment behind a long narrow grass covered ditch. The height of the tracks is emphasized by installing a single row of utility poles that top out below the level of the track. Nice touch.
