A Strange train over the Bridge at Eagle River

During one of my too few visits up the Eagle River toward Three Valley Gap I was wonderfully entertained by a great train show put on by CP rail.  Eight, count’m, eight SD40-2’s in a variety of schemes including one in black. A high-nose version you don’t see every day.  A little research was going to be needed as well as my usual scenery notes.  It occurred to me then that this might be of some interest to the Proto-file readers.

The deck bridge over the Eagle River (Only the Eastern approach shown here) is about 2Km west of Craigellachie, the traditional location of the CPR’s last spike ceremony.  The thing here should have been a story about locating the railway bridge right next to a larger highway bridge for scenic effect but obviously we have to discuss CPR’s black power.

CP leased eleven of these from GATX back in 1991, then after purchasing them in ’92, they painted out the former owners logo and road numbers before applying their own.  But if the cabs in these engines are ‘blanked out’ as suggested by my research, then why is the door open??  Not a bad idea though for a freelance modeler who wants to run some odd power they just couldn’t resist a t a swap meet.
