Another picture at the Regina yard.  These GMD1’s were lined up under the sanding tower in preparation for a trip through Moose Jaw and south to Baildon (effectively a ghost town) Briercrest, Avonlea and then on to Parry. See  http://wvrr.ca/prototype/photo_03.htm  Records seem to indicate that at one time this line went farther south and then east to join up with CN’s connection to Estevan. Even in the early eighties, branch line abandonment had cut up much of this service.

Never the less,in Moose Jaw traffic could get pretty heavy over that high trestle and there were nearly always four GMD1’s doing the work.  These four or five are decked out in my favourate GMD1 colour scheme.  The big white ‘noodle’ and the all red cabs seemed too suit these machines, and the SW1200’s, better than any of the other larger 1st generation units.  I think it’s because the red areas highlighted the very features that made these road switchers unique.  Many modellers would walk barefoot on broken glass for an HO string that looked just like this….
