Imagine living a place with no name.  Imagine living in/at Mile 10.6 and imagine living there in an age of metric measurements.  Better yet.  Imagine living right on Canada’s main line and playing host to huge CN traffic 24/7, the Canadian, and even a few CPRail detours.  Wonderful eh?

This Trans Canada Highway overpass on Winnipeg’s parameter road was a favourate spot of mine between 1987 and 1994.  Those dead straight double tracks lead west to God’s Country and Riderville.  All the same place in some minds.

A couple of observations: The single siding off the main line drops about two feet below grade and it’s even noticeable in this photo. This insures that hoppers being loaded at the elevator don’t run free and find themselves out in the way of passing traffic.  Good idea - seldom modelled.  And if you’re a fan of Manitoba railroading you’ll just about have to have some bright green and yellow silos next to your elevators or even out on the farm.  Also notice the poles that line the tracks.  Few people install anywhere near enough of these because they “get in the way’ or they impede the view of the trains.  So what exactly are you modelling?
