WINTER VALLEY REGIONAL RAILWAY

Edgerton Alberta is at milepost 120.6 of the Wainwright Sub . This E Type Depot was built in 1911 for the Grand Trunk Pacific and was one of over 200 of its kind. This station was moved to its present location in 1986 and is now the central piece in the community’s park, playground and museum.

We should never overlook the opportunity to visit these small towns and villages when we can. Much of the historical railway structures have been swept aside in larger cities but are preserved lovingly in small town Western Canada. In this case, even the baggage wagon is of interest. There are few left in such good condition.

The station at Pearson on the Winter Valley Regional Railway is also an E Type. Modelled after the depot in Fort Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan, it was shorter by 18 feet, at the freight end, but otherwise followed the same design. Don’t be afraid to do just that. There were many varieties of the same station built to suit the local needs.
