This is a prairie granger railway.

The lifeblood of this short line is hard spring wheat, barley and Canola. More by luck than good management a generous seem of high grade coal runs through the neighbourhood and even as that market diminishes the local granite is of growing commercial importance. There are a few cows to move but that’s mostly truck traffic now.

Passengers used to head into the city, behind steam, to visit the kids or to buy those bigger items simply not available on the local store shelves. Before long, they left these small towns to stay. Then as the city grew, a few people moved back into the valley to enjoy a quieter way of life - and a daily commute via an RDC1 or RDC3 leased from the CNR. Now even the tourists are starting to come through just to capture a glimpse of ‘the old west’.
